UNIJOS Lecturers Embark On Indefinite Strike Over Poor Working Conditions

 
The teaching staff of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) have embarked on an indefinite strike starting today over poor working conditions.
The Chairman of the University’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof F. C. Piwuna, in a statement stated that ASUU’s National Executive Council has given them the go-ahead to embark on the strike.

“The NEC of ASUU has approved our request for indefinte and comprehensive strike starting immediately.

“It means that all activities — teaching, supervision, examination as well as statutory and ad hoc committee meetings — have been suspended,” the statement read.

The News Agency of Nigeria was able to gather that the lecturers embarked on the strike because alleged discrepancies in the payments of entitlements amongst other pressing issues.

The UNIJOS striking lecturers are also demanding to receive certain allowances paid to their counterparts in other institutions.
