But barely two years into his regime, he was toppled by the same disgruntled powers that brought him to power and thrown into prison, and his Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Babangida became the next Head of State.
Buhari reportedly felt betrayed and was deeply hurt because his detention caused him to miss his mother’s funeral in 1988. But his anger has since waned, as he later said he has forgiven Babangida.
But, how close are these old boys, really?
In a recent meeting in Abuja which the former military president Babangida attended, President Buhari showed just how very close they are by not only walking up to Babangida to grab his hand in a hearty shake; he also addressed Babangida using an affectionate short form of his name, ‘Ibro.’

“Ibro”, huh? We wonder if Babangida also calls our president something along the lines of “BuBu”? Lol!
