President Buhari fondly addresses Ibrahim Babangida as ‘Ibro’ – WATCH

The event of December 31, 1983, was a historic one that changed the course of our nation: a group of military officers conspired and ousted President Shehu Shagari from office, on grounds that the corruption had overtaken the country. That coup brought the then-Major-General Muhammadu Buhari to power.

But barely two years into his regime, he was toppled by the same disgruntled powers that brought him to power and thrown into prison, and his Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Babangida became the next Head of State.

Buhari reportedly felt betrayed and was deeply hurt because his detention caused him to miss his mother’s funeral in 1988. But his anger has since waned, as he later said he has forgiven Babangida.

But, how close are these old boys, really?

In a recent meeting in Abuja which the former military president Babangida attended, President Buhari showed just how very close they are by not only walking up to Babangida to grab his hand in a hearty shake; he also addressed Babangida using an affectionate short form of his name, ‘Ibro.’

“Ibro”, huh? We wonder if Babangida also calls our president something along the lines of “BuBu”? Lol!
