In an earlier report, we stated the intrigues and politics that
characterized the emergence of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new emir of Kano
with a plot by the presidency to remove him as well as the governor of the
state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. It was stated that the plan is to cause unrest in
the state to the extent that a state of emergency will be declared and the governor
thereafter replaced by a military administrator who will in turn dispose the
Emir.
That exactly is what has begun to play out in the state with a rumour
that President Jonathan has decided to arrest newly installed Emir Of Kano,
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, thus effectively reversing the decision of Governor Rabiu
Kwankwaso who picked Sanusi for the throne.
This move is similar to the earlier report that circulated in the
media stating that the eldest son of late Ado Bayero, Sanusi Ado Bayero has
been named the new Emir with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), quickly
sending out a congratulatory message before it turned out to be false. Some of
the rumors were linked to Presidency and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The Presidency went as far as cloning a twitter account in the name of the
former CBN governor and used it to create the impression that Mr. Sanusi had
announced a new Emir. Many believed this resulted in the protest that enveloped
some parts of the city shortly after Sanusi was announced the new Emir.
Since the rumour of the plans by the president to arrest Sanusi and
reverse his appointment as the Emir got into town, a section of Kano indigenes
who are displeased by the governor’s decision went wild with jubilation. A
jubilant crowd even massed around the emir’s palace in anticipation of the
official announcement of the president’s action.
The plan according to credible sources is to get the supporters of the
Emir to react to the rumour and plunge the state into chaos where the plan to
declare a state of emergency in the state will be effected.
A source close to the governor accused the Presidency of orchestrating
the rumor about Mr. Sanusi’s ostensibly removal. “This whole rumor was
calculated to cause a new set of rioting in Kano,” said the source. He added
that Mr. Jonathan and his cronies had designed a plot to create destabilization
in Kano in order to give the president a pretext to declare a state of
emergency in Kano.
President Jonathan has yet to congratulate Mr. Sanusi on his appointment
as the new emir.
