Yesterday,
Wednesday 18th June 2014, the Punjab police arrested six Nigerian men in Delhi,
India. It is said to be a major breakthrough in Delhi’s drive against drug
trafficking.
According
to The Hindustan Times, the men whose names include Sydney Obinna, Uzochekwu
Clement, Alogsis Ezechinelu, Mike, Victor and Peter, were caught by a joint
team of the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) from Mohali and Patiala.
The
news outlet reports that the men had been obtaining heroin smuggled from
Pakistan, through Punjab and J&K borders.
They
pump the heroin into an international network spread in Nigeria, Brazil,
Pakistan, South Africa, Canada and the US, as well as some Indian states.
It
is being alleged that the men were in contact with Pakistan-based heroin
smugglers Abid Ali, Sajabad and Bhola.
A
spokesperson reveals that the men will appear before a local court to obtain
their police remand for them to be questioned thoroughly, establish linkages,
and effect more arrests and seizures.
All
six men were residing in a rented apartment in Uttam Nagar, New Delhi, where
they were arrested.
