The Formula One icon
was hospitalized in France in December 2013 after a skiing accident at Meribel,
a resort in the French Alps.
On June 16, his
manager, Sabine Kehm, released a statement to give an update of Michael’s
condition as well as thank the doctors who treated him after the accident.
Michael’s family
“would like to explicitly thank all his treating doctors, nurses and therapists
in Grenoble as well as the first aiders at the place of the accident, who did
an excellent job in those first months. The family also wishes to thank all the
people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes. We are sure it helped
him. For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation
will take place away from the public eye,” Sabine’s statement said.
The statement was
the first real update since April 2014 when Sabine said that Michael started to
show signs of consciousness. Michael was transferred to the Lausanne University
Hospital in Switzerland where he will begin his road to recovery.
