Oh no! Twitter erupted late on June 24 as thousands
of users began mourning and tweeting the hashtag “#RIPSouljaBoy.” So what’s
going on here? Did the young rapper tragically pass away, or is he just the
latest victim of the ever popular death hoax trend?
Twitter once again took a morbid turn on June 24,
as rumors of 23-year-old rapper Soulja Boy‘s death began to take the social
media site by storm. But as is the case whenever big “news” like this blows up
on Twitter, the question remained whether the tweets were tragically true or
just made up out of thin air.
Soulja Boy Becomes A Death Hoax Vicitm
Thousands of people tweeted mournful messages after
hearing that Soulja Boy had died. The hashtag “#RIPSouljaBoy” even began
trending worldwide:
Now Soulja Boy, we’ll let you tell ‘em what’s going
on. All of these people, who were ALREADY ON TWITTER, should have just taken
the extra step to go to Soulja Boy’s page, because then they would’ve seen how
off-base this trending topic was. Even while “#RIPSouljaBoy” was trending, the
rapper was tweeting pictures of blinged-out chains and watches and about his
new music video.
So no, Soulja Boy did NOT die. He’s still cranking.
Soulja Boy: Rapper Declared Dead… Again?
Somehow, this is not the first time that the
internet has tried to declare Soulja Boy dead. In Feb. 2012, the same hashtag
began trending on Twitter for no logical reason. Jeez, what does Twitter have
against this guy!?
At this point users might just be using the hashtag
as a joke, which would pretty much confirm the downfall of society.
