In a failed attempt at taking a rather menacing selfie with a gun, 19 year-old Deleon Alonso Smith tragically shot himself to death on Tuesday (Sept. 1)—the bullet pierced through Smith’s throat, according to CNN affiliate KPRC.
The Houston teen was slated to post the picture on Instagram, when things took a turn for the worst. Reports say he left behind two young daughters, and was going to start community college. Family members say Smith never mentioned anything about suicide, however, one of his cousins said they both found the gun earlier that day. Reportedly, when the incident happened Smith’s cousin was in another room.
Deleon’s uncle, Eric Douglas, tried to bring him back to life, but failed.“it’s the worst feeling in my life,” Douglas said.
“It’s a numb feeling. It’s still unbelievable,” Smith’s grandmother Alma Douglas told KPRC. “Yesterday was my birthday and he came to wish me happy birthday, and then to hear this kind of news.”
The police are still investigating, further details for this case are still pending.
